Staff Sgt. John Washburn II was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and graduated from Waynesville Senior High School in Waynesville, Mo., in 2006. In 2006 he joined the U.S. Army and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Following completion of One Station Unit Training with Company G, 795th Military Police Battalion, he was awarded the military occupational specialty of Military Police Officer. He served in assignments overseas and stateside including the 401stth Military Police Company, Fort Hood, Texas; 127th Military Police Company, Fort Carson Colorado; 118th Military Police Company (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC; Area Support Group-Qatar, Camp As Sayliyah, Doha, Qatar; 58 Military Police Company, Schofield Barracks, HI; and University of Guam, Mangilao, Guam. His duty positions include gunner, driver, team leader, squad leader, and military science instructor.
Washburn’s formal military training consists of Warrior Leadership Course, Advanced Leadership Course, Air Assault, Combatives Level 1, Combatives Level 2, Master Army Combatives Program, Combat Life Savers Course, JCR Operators Course, HAZMAT, Bus Drivers Course, Master Resiliency Trainer Level 1, Rappel Master, and Common Faculty Development Instructors Course.
Washburn’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd award), National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 2), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (3), the Combat Action Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
